| Flights
We
do not include flights in our packages. You have the flexibility to arrange your own flights to/from Ulaanbaatar. We can recommend ATOL licensed travel agents who can book these flights for you. Contact us for more information.
Some of our itineraries involve a domestic flight in Mongolia;
we cannot issue these tickets in the UK. We will make a reservation
for you but you will need to pay for the flight on arrival in
Ulaanbaatar. Return flights to Hovsgol cost approximately £150-£200.
Domestic flights are normally in 50-seater Russian-made twin propeller Antonov aircraft operated by Mongolian Airlines (MIAT) or Hangard, a private airline; at
some destinations (e.g. Hatgal) these planes will land on an un-surfaced
(e.g. grass) airstrip.
Accommodation
In the capital Ulaanbaatar we use comfortable tourist-class
hotels. At our Expedition Centre at Lake Hovsgol accommodation is in lodges
or gers, 2 persons sharing one room or ger. Camping is normally two people sharing a 3-person mountain tent.
On some of our tours we use tourist ger camps. These consist of accommodation in traditional gers, a central restaurant in a building or large ger, and toilet and shower facilities
in a separate block. Gers at tourist camps have up to 4 beds and you are normally expected
to share.
If you require single accommodation a single supplement will
apply. If you are travelling alone and are happy to share with another member of
the group of the same sex then single supplements may not be necessary.
Passports & Visas
Visas are required for British citizens visiting Mongolia and
a full passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your return
date is essential.The price of the visa is not included in the price of the holiday,
but we will supply full details and application forms on request. You should apply for your visa about 2 or 3 months prior to travelling.
Flights to Mongolia generally transit through Moscow or Beijing;
if you are travelling via Beijing British citizens will require
a Chinese visa. If you are only transiting Moscow Airport you
do not need a Russian Visa, if you are planning to stopover in
Moscow a visa is required.
Vaccinations
There are no specific vaccinations that are legally required
for entry to Mongolia, however, there are a number of vaccinations
you should consider including; Tetanus, Hepatitis A, Meningococcal
Menigitis, Hepatitis B, Rabies. Please consult your doctor or travel clinic for the latest
up to date advice.
